John Lynch was City Café’s first guest
Designer John Lynch, founder of Context Studio, was the first guest at Porto Innovation Hub – City Café. The initiative took place this thursday, in an informal format, based on a coffee break.
Porto Innovation Hub (PIH) organized the first session of City Café, a new initiative that aims to encourage the sharing of experiences and strengthen knowledge in the area of innovation among employees of Porto.
The first edition of the event was attended by John Lynch, founder and designer at Context Studio, specialist in Service Design and Interaction Design in various industries.
The talk focused on the “Principles of Data-Driven City and Service Design” and sought to introduce some of the basic principles of service design and demonstrate how data can be leveraged to create solutions that make cities smarter.
To the 35 participants in this session, John Lynch made clear “the importance of service design in building smarter cities.”
“We all realize that our relationship to product design is simple because it exists to serve us. The difference between designing a product or a service is that we have to imagine the user experience across the service, which will always be bigger than the product”, said John Lynch.
Finally, the designer from Dublin, Ireland, considered that “cities are becoming increasingly complex and creating new problems every day”, thus making citizen participation essential in the development of their cities.
