“Innovation Cycle Stepping Out” – discover Civil Engineering in the city

The inauguration of the “Stepping Out Innovation Cycle – Civil Engineering on Display” took place this tuesday at the Porto Innovation Hub (PIH). The kick-off of the initiative was marked by the opening of the exhibition that will remain at PIH until December 13.

The “Stepping Out Innovation Cycle – Civil Engineering on Display” was inaugurated, with a full house, at Porto Innovation Hub. The highlight was the exhibition, which will be shown at the house of innovation in the city until December 13, with guided tours every wednesday, guided by Prof. Eduardo Costa (FEUP), upon prior registration through the Porto Innovation Hub website dedicated to the initiative.

The inauguration of the exhibition was attended by representatives of the various partners involved in this “Innovation Cycle” – Porto Municipality, FEUP Civil Engineering Department, University of Porto and Order of Engineers (North Region) -, considered by Filipe Araújo, vice-mayor of Porto and responsible for Innovation, “the culmination of the ‘Stepping Out’ activity”. “Fortunately, today we have no difficulty explaining the city to those who visit us and we find innovation around every corner. This innovation is represented here today and may be visited in the coming months”, said the vice-mayor.

After the speeches period, a first visit to the exhibition was held, which features various historical pieces and instruments at Invicta Civil Engineering, highlighting the models of engineer Edgar Cardoso, a section of the diagnostic work of Ponte Luiz I and a model from the Leixões Oil Terminal.

The “Stepping Out Innovation Cycle – Civil Engineering on Display” will also be marked by a conference cycle dedicated to discussing the impact of Civil Engineering on improving citizens’ quality of life. The first three sessions to be held on October 10 are confirmed (“Porto’s traffic”, by José Pedro Tavares); October 15 (“The banks of the Douro estuary”, by Fernando Veloso Gomes); and October 29 (“Risk management in cultural heritage”, by Esmeralda Paupério and Xavier Romão). Participation in conferences is subject to prior registration on the PIH website.

Alongside this cycle of conferences, the “Stepping Out Visits” are also back. The first departure is scheduled for October 11, on a guided tour by Esmeralda Paupério to the Portuguese Center of Photography. Registration is available here.

It is recalled that the activities will be regularly broadcasted on the Porto News Portal and on Porto Innovation Hub website. All initiatives included in the program are open to the public, free of charge, subject to prior scheduling or registration until December 13.
